[400] Promote Your Blog + 4 Blogging Lessons I Learned

To mark the occasion of my 400th post and 4 years of blogging, I wanted to write this post to share the 4 lessons I’ve learned from blogging for this long.

Also, you guys are free to comment here your blog links or one post that you’d like everyone to read. Let’s make this a big blog party.

A short introduction to your blog for the unacquainted and a post to welcome your new readers would be helpful.

Consistency, the elusive elixir of writers. We all know if we are consistent we will reap its benefits, but the inner resistance battles our quest for consistency and we lose.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
4 years ago I beat resistance and started a blog. In my mind it was simple. To become a better writer I have to write more. So I hope my learnings will inspire you to open that blog you’ve been meaning to open or publish that poem that has been accumulating dust.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
𝟏. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
The most important lesson I learned was understanding topics, words, ideas and the style that came naturally to me. As you write for a long period of time, a pattern emerges in your writing. As you recognise it, you will also be able to avoid it to grow to be a better writer or use it to your liking. You will also likely find your voice.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

2017 – 116 posts, 28k views

2018 – 105 posts, 32k views

2019 – 61 posts, 12k views

2020 – 102 posts, 22k views

* The drop in posts in 2019 lowered my growth in 2020. If I would have stayed consistent, it’s quite possible, the blog would have been rewarded with more visitors. I am hoping my consistency in 2020, will help me reap its benefits in 2021.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
𝟑. 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
* One overall pattern I have seen in blogging is what I call the new year resolution effect. Like gym memberships boost at the beginning of every year, a lot of blogs are created with that beginner drive. But the excitement tapers off soon and the blog is abandoned.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
* The consequence on the creator is that they have to build new following given the old following (usually creators) are no longer on the website.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
𝟒. 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐲⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
* We cannot pretend to live in a bubble and expect people to come to us. If we drop genuine comments on our peer’s blog posts they will definitely appreciate it and check our posts.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
* The community has some lovely people who will give constructive feedback so it will mean a lot to start reading other blogs and encourage their writing. We’re all in this together!

I’ll also leave my Instagram link here if anyone has any questions about blogging in general or if you want to talk about life or just joke around with me. You’re most welcome. I want the conversation to be a two-way street.

I’ll start posting a blog post of mine that is my recent favourite to start things off : [396] Meeting In The Shadows

Thank you for being a part of this community!

Love,
Rahul Gaur
